HOT WHEELS: Stolen Van Recovered; Pedicab Long Gone

A security guard at a senior housing high rise at Aldine and Clark reported the theft of a green Caravan minivan at 12:34 this morning. He was also able to give police the vehicle’s license plate number.

An officer on patrol quickly found the vehicle near Belmont and Pine Grove. The offender crashed the van into another vehicle as he bailed out. Officers lost the thief in a foot chase.

The offender, described as male, black, in all black clothing, was last seen running eastbound in an alley behind Belmont Avenue. The case will be recorded as an auto theft and recovery. Case numbers HW405411 and HW405462.

Four hours after the theft, the Chicago Police Department had still not found an evidence technician to process the vehicle and it was determined that no technician would be available any time soon. So, the minivan was returned to its owner without evidence collection.

About CWBChicago 4358 Articles
CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
