SMASHING: 3 Business Burglarized By Glass-Busting Bandits Overnight

Two Wrigleyville businesses were broken into overnight by offenders who busted through the shops’ glass doors. A third business in nearby Lake View was similarly struck around the same time.

A glass repair service van sits behind Windy City Gyros this afternoon.

The first sign of trouble came via an alarm from Windy City Gyros, 3932 N. Broadway, at 3:43AM. Officers arrived to find the front door glass broken. They classified the case as a burglary. Case number HW522547.

Then, a passer-by reported that the front door glass of a Subway restaurant was broken at Clark and Grace around 6:30 this morning. This, too, was classified as a burglary by police officers in case HW522568. The glass on the store has been repaired, however pieces of broken glass remained on the sidewalk this afternoon.

In nearby Lakeview, Fine Cleaners, 3059 N. Southport, was burglarized by an offender who broke the store’s front glass shortly before 5AM today. The burglar took off with the dry cleaner’s cash register, which contained about $15 in loose change. CPD case #HW522550.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
