WEEKEND NOTES: DePaul Robbery; TBOX Learns

The 18th district recorded yet another robbery near DePaul University this morning. Witnesses reported a victim on the ground with offenders going through his book bag. The robbers, described only as two black men, got into an occupied gray Chrysler and fled eastbound on Fullerton from Lincoln Avenue around 3:15AM. CPD case #HW571335.

Pine Grove Scare
A woman in the 3900 block of Pine Grove awoke to find an unknown man in her bedroom just before 6 o’clock this morning. The victim screamed and the offender fled in an unknown direction. The event happened too quickly for the woman to get a description. It does not appear that a report was taken.

TBOX In A Nutshell
TBOX, the thousands-person-strong bar crawl that came under fire after creating havoc in the neighborhood last year, staged a much mellower event this weekend.

A reader comment sums up our feelings on the turn-around quite well:

Sounds like a good example of what ‘should’ occur more often. An event got out of hand, the organization running it gets the backlash from the neighborhood businesses and residents, and responds. This year’s TBOX was half the size and the org funded additional security at each location. TBOX feared getting shut down, so they acted. Seems like other neighborhood groups don’t have that same fear…

Changing of The Guard At BYC
The Broadway Youth Center’s executive director stepped down on Friday. The youth services center is continuing to seek neighborhood approval to operate on a residential section of Wellington Avenue, as reported by Matt Simonette.

And Finally…
Police were called to a retirement community in the 3900 block of N. Clark at 12:40PM Saturday. Two senior citizens were “fighting in the cafeteria over a cane.” Peace was restored.

About CWBChicago 4357 Articles
CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets.
