DOUBLE CUFFED: Jewel Shoplifter Turns Violent

A security guard at Boystown’s Jewel-Osco store sought medical treatment after he was bitten on the arm and hand by a shoplifter that he was trying to detain Sunday morning.
Officers went to the store near Broadway and Addison just before 10 a.m. following multiple 911 calls of a battery in progress. Police took the kicking, spitting, and flailing offender into custody.
Interestingly, the Jewel guard told officers that the thief came into the store with a pair of handcuffs already attached to one wrist.
On December 16, a shoplifter pulled out a utility knife when a security guard at the Uptown Target store attempted to apprehend him. That offender ran away with the Target guard’s handcuffs dangling from his left wrist.

UPDATE JANUARY 19, 2014: This case has been upgraded to robbery and aggravated battery under CPD case HX111576. The more serious charges stem from the fact that the shoplifter yelled, “I got AIDS” after biting the security guard.
