Four cab drivers have been robbed on the North Side since Friday morning, with the most recent hold-up happening outside of Wrigley Field, according to a community alert issued by Area North detectives.
The robber, who is picked up as a fare, robs the cabbies when they arrive at their destination, police said.
A large knife was displayed in two of the robberies, including the Wrigleyville incident, police said. In other cases, one cabbie believed that a handgun had been placed to his head while the offender put another driver in a headlock.
The robber has fled with each victim’s money and cellphone.
Detectives have linked the following four hold-ups:
• 2000 block of West Webster in Bucktown at 1:25 a.m. on Friday.
• 3500 block of West Melrose in Avondale at 3 a.m. and 3:20 a.m. on Friday.
• The corner of Clark and Waveland at 1:20 a.m. on Saturday.
Police say the offender is a clean-shaven Hispanic man who stands about 5’8” tall and weighs about 155 pounds. He was wearing a black baseball cap, a black hoodie, and blue jeans in the Thursday robberies. On Friday he wore a maroon t-shirt.
