Charges are pending after a woman was thrown to the ground, punched in the face, and robbed near the Gold Coast on Wednesday evening.

Police said the offender grabbed a 21-year-old woman’s purse and flung her to the pavement in the 1000 block of North Dearborn around 11:20 p.m. The man then punched her in the face while she was on the ground.

Screams from the victim prompted at least nine people to dial 911 for help, police said, which helped officers arrive on the scene quickly.

One patrol unit saw a man matching the offender description while they were driving to the scene of the robbery. That man was detained in the 1000 block of North Clark and has been identified by the victim as her attacker, police said.

The victim was treated at the scene for her injuries.

CWBChicago will post an updated story when charges against the man are finalized.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
