Prosecutors today charged two Hammond, Indiana, men with shooting a third man near the Magnificent Mile early Sunday.
Eddie Stone, 30, and 35-year-old Armando Madrueno are each charged with one Class X felony count of aggravated battery by discharging a firearm. They are due in bond court today.
Police today said a concerned citizen who heard shots fired on the first block of East Chicago Avenue waved down a passing patrol car at 3:52 a.m. A 20-year-old man at the scene told the officers that gunmen had shot him in the hand.
Police searched the area and arrested Stone and Madrueno as they ran from the area, according to an officer at the scene.
According to police, a fight between Stone, Madrueno, and the victim escalated—Stone was reportedly struck in the head with a crowbar—and “the offenders produced a firearm and fired shots,” a CPD spokesperson said.
The police department did not say if Stone and Madrueno were both armed or if they fired the same gun, but a weapon was recovered. Shell casings, blood, and a crowbar reportedly marked the crime scene near 42 East Chicago Avenue.
The victim and Stone were both treated and released at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.
Police previously said the incident occurred in the first block of West Chicago Avenue, but the department updated that to the first block of East Chicago Avenue on Monday.
