Cops: Man robbed Lakeview store at knifepoint Tuesday afternoon

A man from the Austin neighborhood is charged with robbing a Lakeview business at knifepoint on Tuesday afternoon, police said.

Omar Gonzalez, 22, displayed a kitchen knife and took about $190 from an employee at Amigos and Friends, 3209 North Clark, around 4 p.m., according to a CPD spokesperson and police records.

Officers searched the area and arrested Gonzalez after a short foot chase on the 3300 block of North Sheffield about an hour later.

Prosecutors charged Gonzalez with felony armed robbery and two misdemeanor counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He is due in bond court on Wednesday.

Update February 18, 2022 — Gonzalez pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery and received a sentence of six years from Judge Catherine Haberkorn, according to court records. He will receive 773 days credit for the time he spent in custody and on electronic monitoring before sentencing.
