A group of men and women has robbed four CTA customers in the Loop since mid-October, according to a CPD community alert. Three of the muggings occurred at the Roosevelt CTA station.
Police said three or four male and female offenders, mostly teenagers, are physically attacking customers and taking the victims’ property during the evening and early morning hours. The robbers displayed a black handgun during one robbery, according to police.
Area Central detectives listed four robberies that investigators believe are connected. According to the community alert and police reports:
Three offenders displayed a handgun and robbed a victim at the Roosevelt CTA station around 10 p.m. on Oct. 15. Police described the robbers as two 17-year-old black males and one black male who is 17 to 19 years old, 6’1” tall, and 165 pounds.
Around 10:05 p.m. on Oct. 19, a CTA customer was robbed on the 1100 block of South Michigan by four people, according to police:
- A black male, 15-18 years old, 6-feet tall, 150 pounds with a fade hair cut
- A black male, 15-18 years old, 5’7” tall, 200 pounds, with short hair
- A black female, 15-18 years old, 5-feet tall, 130 pounds, with medium-length hair
- A black female between 15 and 18 years old with no further description
Three teenage boys robbed another customer at the Roosevelt station at 9 p.m. on Oct. 23. All of the teens are black, 13-15 years old, and about 5’6” tall, police said.
Three men robbed a CTA customer at the Roosevelt station around 2:40 a.m. on Oct. 25. One is male, black, 20-30 years old, 5’10” tall, and 130 pounds. No further descriptions were available for the other two offenders.
Police encouraged CTA passengers to be aware of their surroundings and to report suspicious activity immediately.
