Police are investigating an armed carjacking reported in Uptown late Friday.

The victims told police that they were sitting in a 2015 Nissan Rogue on a parking lot in the 4100 block of North Clarendon when a stranger climbed into their back seat while displaying a handgun just before midnight.

He forced the woman to drive a short distance, then ordered the woman and her companion out of the vehicle near Irving Park Road and Marine Drive. He then took control of the woman’s SUV and headed south on Lake Shore Drive, the woman said.

Police believe the carjacker took her car to the South Loop where he used the victim’s ATM card at a service station around 12:25 a.m. Officers searched the area near the gas station but they did not find the car or the offender.

The woman said the carjacker is a black male who wore a ski cap and dark clothing.

The stolen SUV bears an Illinois license plate that begins with BD39.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
