Man critical after being shot while driving in Lakeview

A West Town man is in critical condition after being shot while driving in Lakeview on Thursday afternoon. No one is in custody.

According to preliminary information:

Someone in a white SUV shot the victim as both vehicles traveled southbound on the 3700 block of North Ashland around 3:50 p.m. The SUV, a newer-model Ford Explorer, then turned west on Waveland Avenue, according to witnesses.

The Explorer reportedly has a large sunroof and two rails on its top.

As of 4:30 p.m., the 53-old victim is in surgery at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the left side of his neck.
