Police are looking for the man who attacked and tried to rob a woman who refused to give him money as she walked in Boystown on Friday morning.

The victim, 36, told police that she was walking just west of Halsted Street on Waveland Avenue when the man asked her for cash and tried to grab a bag from her hands around 8:15 a.m., according to a CPD spokesperson.

Police said the man then threw the woman to the ground and began beating her in the head and body with his fists. He fled westbound on Waveland after passersby intervened.

Surveillance camera footage showed the man smoking outside the Center on Halsted, 3656 North Halsted, and then moving a few feet west of the center’s entrance moments before the attack.

An ambulance crew transported the victim to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center for treatment of facial injuries.

Police said the attacker is male, black, 25-35 years old, 5’6” to 5’10” tall, and 160 to 170 pounds. He wore a black ski jacket with a hoodie, a winter knit cap, and gray stonewash jeans.

Area North detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
