A group of car thieves crashed through the Ritz-Carlton Hotel valet parking garage gate as they stole three vehicles late Thursday, police said. No one is in custody.
“Several young people” entered the garage at 160 East Pearson around 11 p.m. and got behind the wheels of a Mercedes, a Range Rover, and a Tesla Model S that all reportedly had their keys inside, according to a witness.
Then, they drove out the exit, with the first car crashing through the garage gate. The vehicles headed north on Mies Van Der Rohe Way behind Water Tower Place.
But the Range Rover didn’t get far. Cops found it nearby.
Police followed a GPS tracker to located the stolen Tesla abandoned on the 7800 block of South Carpenter around 12:45 a.m.
No descriptions of the offenders were available. Area Central detectives are investigating.
