17-year-old shot near Berwyn Red Line station

A 17-year-old boy who has no previous contact with police is in serious condition after being shot near the Berwyn Red Line station in Edgewater on Sunday evening.

The victim was walking on the 1000 block of West Berwyn when an armed man walked up to him, shouted a gang slogan, and began firing. At least ten shell casings were found at the scene and the victim was struck once in the leg, according to officers on the scene.

Police said the shooter, a Hispanic man dressed entirely in black, fled westbound on Berwyn.

An ambulance crew transported the victim to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Area North detectives are investigating.
