Chicago police are conducting a death investigation after a 24-year-old man was fatally shot in Rogers Park early Tuesday. Police responded to an apartment on the 1300 block of West Greenleaf after a 911 caller, who identified himself as a friend of the victim, reported that the man had shot himself in the head around 1:30 a.m.
The injured man was taken to St. Francis Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. He has been identified as Samuel Wiener.
Police recovered a handgun at the scene, according to a CPD statement. The friend was taken in for an interview with detectives. Wiener had no previous contact with police, CPD said.
