Man had gun, drugs, passports at Armitage Brown Line station, prosecutors say

Police who responded to a call of a robbery at the Armitage Brown Line station Saturday evening wound up finding a man on the platform with a defaced handgun, four passports, thousands of dollars worth of narcotics, and more, according to prosecutors.

Officers responded to the CTA station after a victim reported being robbed by three people around 10:10 p.m.

Witnesses told police that two offenders fled but one offender was on the platform.

Police went to the platform and found a man who matched the description of one of the robbers. They detained 22-year-old Dante Webb and performed a custodial search of Webb’s backpack, prosecutors said in bond court Monday.

Webb’s bag contained a 22-caliber revolver with a defaced serial number, nine rounds of ammunition, 94 MDMA pills, two bags of crushed MDMA, two U.S. passports, two Colombian passports, two different Social Security cards, an Illinois driver’s license, a Connecticut driver’s license, and cash, according to prosecutors.

The drugs allegedly have a street value of $4,165.

Prosecutors charged Webb with felony armed violence, felony possession of a defaced firearm, three felony counts of possessing a controlled substance, five misdemeanor theft charges, and misdemeanor possession of cannabis.

Judge David Navarro set bail at $10,000. Webb will need to post a $1,000 deposit bond to get out of jail before trial.

Police detained two men on the 2500 block of North Halsted shortly after the alleged robbery. They were later released and no robbery charges were filed in the case.
