A 32-year-old man has died after police found him with multiple gunshot wounds in an Old Town apartment building hallway around 2:10 a.m. Wednesday, according to CPD.

Investigators established crime scenes inside two units of a residential building at 1365 North Hudson. Shell casings were found in a stairwell between two floors of the complex.

Citing preliminary information, the police department said responding officers took a suspect into custody on the roof of a building in the 1400 block of North Cleveland after they saw him running from the crime scene.

Officers chased the man, who allegedly dropped a handgun as he hopped a fence on the 1300 block of North Hudson. He reportedly broke into a condo building on Cleveland and police subsequently found him on the complex roof.

The victim was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at  Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Police said he did not appear to have previous contact with CPD, according to the department.
