Man fatally shot near Goose Island shopping district

Update July 6, 2020, 7:03 AM — The Cook County medical examiner’s office has identified the victim as Kenric Campbell, 26, of the Garfield Park neighborhood.

A 26-year-old man is dead after being shot in the Goose Island retail corridor Sunday afternoon. No arrests have been made.

The victim was on the 1400 block of North Kingsbury when he was shot around 12:45 p.m., according to Chicago police. He was pronounced dead a short time later at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center.

Police recovered a revolver at the scene that may have belonged to the victim, according to initial information. A witness told CWBChicago he saw ten shell casings marked by evidence technicians at the scene.

The shooting happened outside an REI sporting goods store and investigators are working to review surveillance video from the business. A shopping center located directly across from the murder scene is anchored by PetSmart and Buy Buy Baby.
