Another armed carjacking reported in Bucktown

Another armed carjacking unfolded in Bucktown Monday afternoon, the latest in a string of robberies that have been reported in the area this month.

Police said a 30-year-old woman was outside a home when the male offender walked up to her on the 1800 block of North Wilmot at 1:05 p.m. He displayed a handgun, took her valuables, and drove away northbound with her 2021 blue Hyundai Sportage, according to CPD spokesperson Kellie Bartoli.

The gunman may have had an accomplice who followed in a black vehicle, according to a witness.

Bartoli said the carjacker is a Black male with short hair who’s about 16-years-old, 5’10” tall, and 150 pounds. He wore a black t-shirt and light blue jeans. The woman was not injured.

Monday’s crime is similar to a pair of carjackings that were reported in the area on August 13. One of those incidents was captured on surveillance video.

Last Thursday, August 20, armed robbers committed three hold-ups within 10 minutes in nearby Wicker Park. Police this week issued a community alert about that spree.

Area Five detectives are investigating all of the crimes.
