A 31-year-old woman who ran out to Walgreens was sexually assaulted and robbed when an armed man followed her back to her River North hotel early Friday, according to Chicago police. No one is in custody.

The offender — who displayed a knife — trailed the woman, grabbed her from behind, and sexually assaulted her in a 14th-floor stairwell at Home2 Suites by Hilton, 110 West Huron, around 1:36 a.m. Friday, a CPD report said.

He took the woman’s phone and other valuables, then fled on foot, police said. Initial reports from the scene indicated that the woman had also been tied up, but police did not release information to that effect.

According to the CPD alert, the attacker is a Black male in his early- to mid-20’s who stands 5’7” to 6-feet tall. He has a thin build and wore a hospital mask, blue latex gloves, and all black clothing.

Anyone with information about the crime can contact Area Three detectives at 312-744-8261 regarding case JD-331707.

The woman is the third River North hotel guest to be targeted in violent crimes this week. On Tuesday evening, a 55-year-old Arizona woman was intentionally struck and killed by a motorist as she returned to her hotel from dinner, police said. Her 20-year-old daughter, also from Arizona, was injured.

Prosecutors this week charged 25-year-old Edgar Roman of Albany Park with murder, two counts of attempted murder, and other counts in connection with the crimes.
