Police: Teens charged with carjacking 65-year-old woman in Rogers Park

Two juveniles, one age 13 and the other 15, are charged with carjacking a 65-year-old woman in Rogers Park and then crashing her vehicle into a building minutes later on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was unloading groceries from her 2014 Mazda when two males entered her garage on the 1200 block of West Farwell, displayed a handgun, and took her car shortly before 4 p.m., according to a CPD report.

Police quickly spotted the carjacked Mazda in traffic near Sheridan and Granville, but CPD supervisors ordered cops not to follow the vehicle due to safety concerns. Officers in a nearby district — who report to different supervisors — located the car again in Uptown. The carjackers promptly crashed into a building on the corner of Racine and Leland. Both were arrested after they tried to run from the scene.

Prosecutors charged each of them with felony aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and felony aggravated vehicular hijacking of a person over age 60.

Police did not release any other information about the teens because they are juveniles.
