Police: Teens charged with carjacking 65-year-old woman in Rogers Park

Two juveniles, one age 13 and the other 15, are charged with carjacking a 65-year-old woman in Rogers Park and then crashing her vehicle into a building minutes later on Tuesday afternoon.

The victim was unloading groceries from her 2014 Mazda when two males entered her garage on the 1200 block of West Farwell, displayed a handgun, and took her car shortly before 4 p.m., according to a CPD report.

Police quickly spotted the carjacked Mazda in traffic near Sheridan and Granville, but CPD supervisors ordered cops not to follow the vehicle due to safety concerns. Officers in a nearby district — who report to different supervisors â€” located the car again in Uptown. The carjackers promptly crashed into a building on the corner of Racine and Leland. Both were arrested after they tried to run from the scene.

Prosecutors charged each of them with felony aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and felony aggravated vehicular hijacking of a person over age 60.

Police did not release any other information about the teens because they are juveniles.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
