Violent robbers targeting women in West Loop, West Town, cops say

At least four women have been thrown to the ground and robbed in the West Loop this week, according to a community alert from Chicago police.

One or two men are striking up conversations with women who are walking alone, then the offenders throw the victims to the ground and take their purses. The robbers punched one woman twice in her face, police said. All of the attacks took place during afternoon hours, according to the alert.

The CPD bulletin does not list the dates or times of the robberies, but case numbers listed on the alert suggest that the muggings took place on Sunday, December 6; Wednesday, December 9; and twice on Thursday, December 10.

Cases were reported on the 400 block of North Aberdeen, the 200 block of South Aberdeen, the first block of North Racine, and the 1000 block of West Grand, police said.

According to the alert, the suspects are:

  • a Black male wearing dark clothing and a mask
  • a Black male, 5’8” to 6-feet tall, 20- to 30-years-old, about 150 pounds, wearing dark clothing, a mask, and brown or tan work boots. In one case, the victim saw a red stripe on his jacket.
