Update: “Second City Cop” bloggers say they decided to pull the plug on their own

The operators of Second City Cop, a long-running and widely-read blog about Chicago policing, confirmed Tuesday night that they independently decided to cease publication over the weekend.

SCC’s writers cited concerns about information security and other issues in a final message for their readers. You can see the full text of their letter at HeyJackass.com.

According to the bloggers, who claimed to be current and former Chicago police officers, online rumors and reports that the site had been “de-platformed” by Google are not true. On Tuesday morning, WGN-TV reporter Ben Bradley tweeted that a Google representative told the station that the company had “taken no action” regarding SCC.

Access to the site, which was hosted on a Google-owned publishing platform called Blogger, had been set to “private” by its owners, the company said.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
