Armed men rob, carjack food delivery drivers twice on same block

Two armed men robbed food delivery drivers on the same Near West Side block Saturday and Sunday evenings, according to police. The offenders carjacked one of the victims.

Police issued a community alert about the robberies, which took place one address apart on the 1100 block of West Washburne around 9:39 p.m. Saturday and 8:15 p.m. Sunday.

In the first incident, a Beggar’s Pizza driver arrived with a delivery, but the customer never came down for their food. When he called the number that placed the order, two men emerged from a gangway and took his money and the pizzas at gunpoint, according to a CPD report. They did not take his car.

The person who placed the order never called to ask where their pizza was, so the whole thing appears to have been a trap.

On Sunday, another driver pulled up to virtually the same spot to complete a delivery. Two men emerged from a nearby gangway, both displayed guns, and they drove off with his white Toyota RAV-4.

The robbers are two Black males between 17- and 24-years-old who stand about 6-feet tall, according to CPD’s alert. They wore black clothing, but one of the victims reported seeing a red stripe on one of their sleeves.
