A woman is in “very critical condition” after suffering head trauma and a stab wound to her heart during a domestic altercation inside a River North hotel room overnight, according to CPD and a source.
Police responded to Residence Inn and Springhill Suites, 410 North Dearborn, after a man called 911 and said he needed an ambulance in a room on the 17th floor around 3:40 a.m.
According to a police report, officers found a woman in the room with trauma to her head and face and a stab wound to her chest. The woman was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where doctors learned that the stab wound lacerated her heart, according to preliminary information.
Officially, police said the woman had not yet been identified.
A Calumet City man who was with the woman is in custody. Police said he was also taken to Northwestern for treatment of lacerations to his hand.
As police arrived at the stabbing scene, hotel employees were trying to evict a large party from another room on the 17th floor, but it is not clear if the stabbing is related to the group.
Area Three detectives are investigating.
