Here are some court outcomes for cases you may remember reading about on CWBChicago.
• A Chicago man has pleaded guilty to beating a robbery victim with a skateboard in Millennium Park in exchange for a six-year sentence.
Jameil Williams, 26, had just completed parole for another robbery case when he allegedly chased down a 24-year-old Norridge Man on the 300 block of East Randolph on the evening of September 23, 2019.
Williams took the other man’s skateboard and beat him with it, then took property from the victim’s fanny pack and fled, prosecutors alleged.
Police arrested Williams eleven days later when they recognized him walking in the Loop.
Williams has now pleaded guilty to one count of armed robbery in the plea deal. Prosecutors dropped four other felony charges in the case, which Judge Steven Watkins oversaw. According to court records, at the time of the Millennium Park robbery, Williams had just completed parole robbing a 58-year-old man of cigarettes and a Ventra card in March 2016.
He is scheduled to be paroled in the skateboard attack on September 26, 2022.
• A Rogers Park man has pleaded guilty to punching his 100-year-old mother in her face on December 11, 2019.
Donald Brearley, 65, punched his mother in her face with a closed fist during a dispute at their home, prosecutors said after his arrest. According to police, she was hospitalized at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston after the attack and was later transferred to a nursing home for ongoing care.
Brearley, who is retired, was facing felony charges of aggravated battery of a victim over the age of 60. But he reached a deal with prosecutors in which he pleaded guilty to a reduced count of misdemeanor battery. Judge Ursula Walowski sentenced him to two years court supervision and 50 hours of community service.
• An Uptown man who was facing attempted murder charges for stabbing another man during an altercation in 2018 has pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of aggravated battery in exchange for a five-year prison sentence.
Deonta Moore, 31, stabbed the 43-year-old victim in his chest, stomach, and back during an altercation on the 1000 block of West Wilson around 5 p.m. on September 22, 2018, prosecutors alleged.
Cops arrested Moore nearby a few minutes later. A second offender fled the scene.
Prosecutors dropped attempted murder and three other felony counts in their plea deal with Moore. Judge Lauren Edidin handled the case and sentencing.
The state reduced his five-year sentence by 50% for good behavior and he received credit for time spent in custody before entering his plea. According to Illinois Department of Corrections records, he reported to prison on January 5 and was released on March 19.
Moore previously received a six-year sentence for carjacking in 2009.
