Woman carjacked in parking garage at South Loop Target store

A 55-year-old woman was injured when a group of carjackers pushed her to the ground and took her car inside the Target parking garage, 1154 South Clark, in the South Loop on Saturday evening. Police believe the hijacking crew took another car in Woodlawn earlier.

The woman was on the ground floor of the garage when three young males grabbed the keys from her hand around 8:04 p.m., police said. She tried to fight back, the offenders pushed her to the ground, dislocating her shoulder and causing scrapes to her back, according to police.

One of the hijackers drove away with the woman’s black Audi Q5 followed by the other two in a white Kia Soul, police said. Investigators think the Kia, which had out-of-state plates, was carjacked near 6500 South Ellis a couple of hours earlier, according to officers.

Police recovered a knife and one of the carjacker’s shoes from inside the parking garage. The entire attack was recorded by Target’s surveillance camera system.

The victim was taken to Rush Hospital for treatment.

Police did not release descriptions of the carjackers. Area Three detectives are investigating.
