A man was shot during an armed robbery near the Magnificent Mile overnight, police said. No arrests have been made.
According to a CPD statement, the 24-year-old victim was walking near the 500 block of North Wabash when the offender pointed a handgun at him and demanded his property around 2:09 a.m. The victim reportedly gave the robber his iPhone and a fanny pack.
Police said the victim then chased the offender, who fired several shots before jumping into a silver car and leaving the area. One bullet struck the victim in his hip. He was taken to surgery at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition.
Witnesses saw police recovering evidence from a sidewalk outside Havas, an advertising agency on the northeast corner of Wabash and Grand.
The gunman was described as a Black male wearing a yellow hoodie. Area Three detectives are investigating.
