Two men fired at least 20 shots as they robbed a man outside his West Loop high-rise apartment building late Monday, leaving the victim in serious condition. No arrests have been made.
It happened outside Presidential Towers, 555 West Madison, around 11:22 p.m., according to police and witnesses.
Police officers in the area heard gunfire and were flagged down by witnesses who reported seeing two suspects run into a nearby parking garage.
Officers found a 52-year-old man outside the towers with a gunshot wound to his torso, according to a CPD media statement. The victim told police that he thought the men were trying to rob him before he was shot, the statement said. Police later learned that the man’s wallet was missing from his back pocket.
Police searched the parking garage but did not locate the offenders, who may have escaped through a back door.
The gunman was described as a light-skinned Black or Hispanic man with a beard who stands about 6’1″ tall, weighs 250 to 260 pounds, and carried a crossbody bag. He wore a dark hat, white t-shirt, and blue or tan shorts, according to witnesses.
Area Three detectives are investigating.
