A man was shot dead in the middle of Division Street on the border of the Old Town and Near North neighborhoods Sunday morning, police said. Detectives are looking for a suspect. He is the fourth person to be murdered in the area since June 15, city data shows.
The victim, who has not been identified but appeared to be 20- to 30-years-old, was crossing the street when the gunman walked towards him and began shooting after they exchanged words around 6:09 a.m., according to a police report and CPD statement.
One bullet struck the victim in his torso and he collapsed in the middle of the street near 230 West Division. He was pronounced dead at Northwestern Memorial Hospital a short time later.
Surveillance videos show the gunman walking westbound after the murder. He is a Black male who wore a black hat, white t-shirt, blue jeans that are bleached on the front, and white gym shoes, a police report said.
Area Three detectives are investigating.
