River North: Man shot on Hubbard Street overnight, police say

A man is in serious condition after someone shot him in River North on Sunday morning, police said. The offender remains at large.

Police officers reported hearing gunfire and quickly found the victim lying on a sidewalk in the 100 block of West Hubbard at 2:52 a.m., according to officers at the scene. The man, 28, was standing on the sidewalk when a gunman fired shots, striking him in the abdomen, according to a CPD statement.

The offender then ran west on Hubbard. Witnesses said he is a skinny Black male who was wearing a white tank top and jeans.

Passersby saw paramedics treating the victim on the north side of Hubbard Street, about 100 feet east of LaSalle Street. The block is home to many bars, clubs, and restaurants. Police said the victim is in serious condition at Northwestern Memorial Hospital.

At least seven other people have been shot in River North this year, with six of those happening since mid-May:

  • A 30-year-old man was shot in the leg inside a parking garage on the 400 block of North State around 1:50 a.m. on June 20.
  • On June 6, a 32-year-old woman was grazed by a bullet when she found herself in the middle of a shootout between the occupants of two cars on the 600 block of North Wells around 1:56 a.m.
  • A 35-year-old woman was shot in a domestic altercation on the 200 block of West Illinois around 1:31 a.m. on May 23. Charges have been filed.
  • Three men, including rapper Lil Reese were shot inside a parking garage at 6 West Grand around 9:53 a.m. on May 15.
