Interstate “fugitive from justice” charged with Avondale carjacking. He’s 17.

A 17-year-old boy who carjacked a woman at gunpoint in Avondale this week had two outstanding warrants and was wanted as a fugitive by another state, police said.

The teen displayed a handgun and took a 31-year-old woman’s car on the 2900 block of West George Street around 11:31 a.m. Wednesday, according to a CPD statement. The victim quickly called the police from her nearby home.

Officers tracked the hijacked Hyundai Sonata to the 3200 block of West Walnut and took the boy into custody after a foot chase. Cops also recovered a handgun, the CPD statement said.

Prosecutors charged him with aggravated vehicular hijacking with a firearm and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. Police did not release any details about the teen’s warrants or fugitive status.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
