Man critically wounded in Streeterville shooting

A 34-year-old man is in critical condition after being shot overnight in Streeterville, police said. No arrests have been made.

The victim, who is celebrating his birthday Sunday, was sitting in the driver’s seat of a car when someone pulled up in another car and began firing at him on the 400 block of East Illinois around 2:16 a.m., police said. One round struck the man in his abdomen.

A relative of the man who was in the car drove him to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, according to police.

Investigators found several bullet holes in the car’s driver’s side. A window was shot out of a block-long building that runs along the south side of Illinois Street. Police said the gunman’s vehicle might have been a silver sedan.

Area Three detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas.
