Man found shot inside car in Lakeview overnight, police say

A man is in serious condition after police found him unconscious with multiple gunshot wounds inside a car in Lakeview overnight. No arrests have been made.

Police responded to calls of shots fired on the 3500 block of North Ashland around 2:50 a.m. and found the man inside a car that crashed on the southeast corner of Ashland and Cornelia, according to witnesses and a CPD statement.

The victim, a 36-year-old man, had gunshot wounds to his upper right back and both thighs. He was taken to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center. Police said he does not appear to have a history of contact with CPD.

Officers found shell casings on the 3500 block of North Ashland, and witnesses reported seeing other vehicles speeding southbound after the gunfire, but descriptions of those other cars varied.

Area Three detectives are investigating the shooting.

Saturday’s victim is the fifth person shot in Lakeview this year. That compares to six at this point last year and three at this time in 2019, according to city records. One of last year’s victims was fatally shot by police after he shot another man and at officers. Another of last year’s victims suffered accidentally self-inflicted wounds.
