Gun recovered after 2 men are shot along Wicker Park – Ukrainian Village border

Two men are recovering after someone shot them early Saturday on Division Street, along the border of Wicker Park and Ukrainian Village, police said. No arrests have been made, but police did find a loaded handgun inside a car that transported one of the victims to a hospital.

Police said shots were fired on the 2100 block of West Division Street around 1:36 a.m., striking the victims in their legs. Patrol officers heard the gunfire, and one unit was at the scene quickly enough to see people loading one of the victims into a car for a trip to the hospital.

A 25-year-old man arrived by car at Rush Hospital while a 34-year-old arrived at St. Mary’s Hospital in a separate vehicle, according to police. The older victim, who is said to be “known” to the police department, was later transferred to Stroger Hospital.

Officers at St. Mary’s spotted an empty holster inside the car that transported the 34-year-old, according to a CPD report. Investigators subsequently found a gun in the same vehicle, which also had a bullet hole in the side.

Witnesses said the men were standing near one of the cars when the offender shot at them, but police did not provide a motive for the shootings.

Police did not release a description of the gunman.
