Woman carjacked in Uptown overnight, police say

Two hijackers took a woman’s car in Uptown overnight, the neighborhood’s 13th carjacking of the year.

Police said the 24-year-old was parking her 2012 Audi Q5 on the 4200 block of North Clarendon when the offenders stepped out of a dark Dodge Charger around 1:38 a.m. The men forced her out of her car and took off with her phone and the SUV. They were last seen heading north on Clarendon.

Carjackings in Uptown have almost doubled this year compared to the seven incidents seen through October 9 last year. The neighborhood had just two carjackings at this point in 2019, according to city records.

Citywide, Chicago police recorded 60 carjackings during the first nine days of October, up 650% compared to the same days in 2019 and up 58% compared to the period last year. For the year, 1,310 carjacking reports were filed through October 9, up from 939 at the same point last year and 430 during the period in 2019.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
