Two hijackers pulled a Lakeview woman from her car as he was pulling into her garage on Thursday evening, police said. One suspect is in custody.
The victim, 25, was parking behind her home on the 1300 block of West Fletcher when the carjackers approached around 6:28 p.m., a police spokesperson said.
Both hijackers pulled her from her car, threw her to the ground, and grabbed her keys. They then climbed into the woman’s car, crashed into a neighbor’s fence, and continued driving, according to a separate CPD report.
Officers later saw the hijacked vehicle in traffic and took the driver into custody, the police spokesperson said. The woman was not seriously injured, and she declined medical attention, according to police.
The hijacking took place about a half-mile from where two drivers were targeted by carjackers last Friday evening. Unlike Thursday’s offenders, the earlier carjackings involved men who were armed with a gun.
“People need to realize that you can do everything right, and it is still a problem,” one of last week’s victims told CWBChicago the following day.
