Police investigate Monday night shooting in Gold Coast

Police are investigating after a man was found shot in the Gold Coast on Monday night.

The victim, a 20-year-old from Calumet City, told police he was inside his car on the 1300 block of North Ritchie when someone fired shots and a bullet hit the left side of his head around 11:35 p.m., according to a CPD report.

Police did not receive any calls of shots fired in the area before the man was found. According to initial information, the victim called a relative to report the shooting rather than calling 911. That relative then called police as they were driving to the scene.

EMS took the victim to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in fair condition, police said.

He is the 58th person shot on the Near North Side this year. The area had 40 shooting victims at this point last year and 31 victims during the period in 2019, according to city records.

Area Three detectives are investigating the case.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
