A Lincoln Park couple was robbed at gunpoint by four men who rolled up on them as they walked on the 1800 block of North Dayton yesterday, police said. The offenders stepped out of a dark-colored sedan, pistol-whipped the woman, and took her purse around 8:45 p.m. They also took her husband’s wallet and phone.
EMS took the woman to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition for treatment of an injury to the back of her head, police said.
“We are outraged at the recent spate of crime in our community over the past few days,” Ald. Michele Smith told constituents in an email on Tuesday evening. “This level of crime is unacceptable to me, and I know it is to all of you.”
Robberies have been surging in Lakeview and, to a lesser extent, Lincoln Park since early November. Among recent cases in Lincoln Park:
- Last Friday evening, three armed men confronted three women at gunpoint on the 2200 block of North Fremont around 9:30 p.m. That’s near the DePaul University athletic field in Lincoln Park. They demanded the victims’ property, and one of them fired a shot during the robbery. All three offenders fled south on Fremont in a black Honda SUV with the women’s purses and phones. No injuries were reported.
- Shortly after midnight on December 2, a man and his girlfriend, both 21, were robbed at gunpoint on the 2100 block of North Bissell. CPD spokesperson Kelly Bartoli said they were walking when three men exited a gray four-door sedan and approached them while displaying handguns.
- On Monday evening, two men exited a silver sedan and robbed a man at gunpoint on the 2200 block of North Clark, Officer Ronald Westbrooks said. The victim, age 45, was walking when the offenders took his wallet, phone, and Canada Goose coat before fleeing around 9:47 p.m.
Smith’s email included information about another robbery that unfolded around 1 a.m. Sunday on the 400 block of West Menomonee in Old Town. She said two men wearing ski masks confronted the victim at gunpoint, hit him with a blunt object, and took his valuables.
