Prosecutors on Saturday charged an 18-year-old man with attempted murder for allegedly shooting a food delivery driver five times on the Ontario feeder ramp in October. Judge Maryam Ahmad ordered Dashaun Glover held without bail.
Around 2 a.m. on October 17, the victim completed a food delivery in River North and headed toward the expressway with his girlfriend riding in the passenger seat of his blue Honda.
Chicago police surveillance cameras recorded footage of a silver Audi SUV following the driver’s car for several blocks before both vehicles headed onto the feeder ramp, prosecutors said during Glover’s bail hearing Saturday.
As the cars traveled on the feeder ramp, the Audi pulled alongside the delivery driver’s car and a man began firing at the victim from the Audi’s front passenger seat, prosecutors said.
Three bullets struck the victim in his lower back. Other rounds hit his hand and grazed his neck. Bullet holes peppered both sides of the victim’s car, its rear, and its windows, prosecutors said.
Investigators caught their first break in the case the next afternoon when Chicago police officers heard gunfire in the Lawndale neighborhood and spotted a silver Audi driving erratically in the area, prosecutors said.
Cops ran the Audi’s license plate and learned that the car had been stolen in Dallas, Texas, and had been flagged by CPD investigators for being involved in multiple shootings, according to prosecutors.
The Audi sped away from cops and crashed. Four people ran from the wrecked SUV and CPD caught three of them, including Glover. Chicago officers allegedly found four handguns in the car.
Glover agreed to participate in a video recorded interview with detectives after that arrest, prosecutors said. During the conversation, he admitted that the 40-caliber handgun cops found in the front passenger seat was his and nobody else owned it, prosecutors said Saturday.
He also told the interviewers that he carries the gun with him anytime he goes outside and admitted that he was in the Audi on the day the delivery driver was shot, according to the allegations.
Shell casings found inside the victim’s car and on the feeder ramp have been linked to the gun, the prosecutor said.
Glover was only charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and criminal trespass to vehicle in October. On Saturday, prosecutors filed new charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery with a firearm.
He is due back in court on Friday.
