Man is shot, critically injured, behind his West Loop home

A man was shot and critically wounded behind his West Loop home Wednesday morning. Now, investigators are trying to determine if the shooting was part of a botched robbery or carjacking attempt, according to a source.

Police said in a media release that a 52-year-old man was in the alley behind the 400 block of North Aberdeen when someone shot him around 5:48 a.m. EMS took the man to Stroger Hospital with two gunshot wounds to his chest.

But a source said the man lives on the opposite side of the alley from where the Aberdeen address and witnesses reported seeing a group of three or four men running from the area after shots were fired.

A resident who lives near the scene said he heard a man scream “help me” after three gunshots rang out. The victim was reportedly seen near a garage that had its door open.

Investigators found three shell casings at the scene along with a loaded ammunition magazine.

Area Three detectives are handling the case.
