3 teenagers are charged with robbing Lakeview smoke shop

Three teenagers face felony charges after destroying merchandise and robbing a Lakeview smoke shop on Sunday evening. A fourth offender got away.

The teens entered Pipes & Stuff, 3174 North Clark, and began breaking display items around 7:21 p.m., according to a police report. One of them grabbed the cash register and smashed it on the floor, said Kellie Bartoli, a CPD spokesperson.

The group gathered up the money and ran south on Clark Street, Bartoli said.

Police rounded up three of the teens near the Wellington and Diversey CTA stations after searching the area for nearly 45 minutes.

Bartoli said two 16-year-old boys were charged with robbery. A 15-year-old boy is charged with robbery and obstructing identification. He also had an outstanding warrant, according to Bartoli.

On December 15, two smoke shops were robbed within hours of each other in the same general area.

The first hold-up was reported at Novelties and Stuff, 3248 North Clark, around 1:30 p.m. A store employee told police that two men entered the store, hit him in the head, and robbed the business, according to a CPD report.

Later, four men attacked a 46-year-old male clerk during a robbery of Halsted Smoke Shop, 3448 North Halsted, around 8:49 p.m., a separate CPD report said. The offenders pepper-sprayed the store employee and took a cash drawer, according to a police media statement.

No arrests have been made in the December incidents.
