Armed robbery team is targeting Bucktown, Wicker Park, Logan Square, police say

Police are warning about another armed robbery and carjacking team committing crime sprees around Bucktown, Logan Square, and Wicker Park. The crew hit four times Tuesday morning and four times Sunday, according to CPD.

CPD said in a community alert that two offenders are displaying a handgun to rob people on the street. In one case, they took the victim’s car, police said.

Tuesday’s crimes began around 9:45 a.m. on the 2100 block of North Oakley in Bucktown. A robber pointed a gun with an extended magazine at the victim’s head and demanded his wallet, then pistol-whipped the victim and drove away in a silver SUV, according to a CPD report.

About two minutes later, a man stepped out of the passenger seat of a silver SUV on the 2100 block of North Milwaukee, threw a woman to the ground, and took her phone and wallet, another report said. Once again, the robber was armed with a handgun.

A couple of minutes later, a 36-year-old man was robbed on the 2100 block of West Armitage. He told police the passenger of a gray SUV confronted him with a gun that had an extended magazine and demanded his money.

The robbers took a break and traveled to the 4000 block of North Milwaukee for their next crime, according to the CPD alert. There, they confronted a 32-year-old woman with a handgun as she left a Jimmy John’s around 11:56 a.m.

The men ordered her to hand over the keys to her 2019 BMW, which they took. An accomplice followed them in a stolen silver Audi Q3 SUV.

According to a source, police found the woman’s BMW abandoned in West Garfield Park. The stolen Audi was found crashed in the same neighborhood.

CPD’s community alert linked Tuesday’s robberies with four crimes from Sunday. In those cases, the crew robbed victims on the 2200 block of North Washtenaw at 4:25 p.m.; the 3000 block of North Sawyer around 5:20 p.m.; the 3100 block of West Belden at 6:08 p.m.; and the 1300 block of North Ashland at 7:10 p.m., police said.
