Boy, 15, killed in Noble Square shooting

Update 8 p.m. — The boy, identified as Caleb Westbrooks, has died, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.


A 15-year-old boy was shot and critically wounded in the Noble Square neighborhood Tuesday afternoon, police said. No arrests have been made.

The boy was on the sidewalk when a gunman walked up and began shooting on the 800 block of North Greenview at 1:14 p.m., according to a CPD media statement. Bullets struck the teen in his chest and left arm.

EMS took him to Stroger Hospital in critical condition, the police statement said.

A surveillance video showed the gunman heading east on Chicago Avenue after the shooting. He is a Black male who wore all black clothing with white gym shoes and a face mask. He also carried a black bookbag or backpack.

The investigation is being handled by Area Three detectives.

The boy is one of five teenagers who were shot across the city between noon and 5 p.m. Tuesday, according to CPD.
