Armed robber shoots victim in West Town early Sunday

An armed robber shot a 35-year-old man during a hold-up that netted him a backpack early Sunday in West Town, according to Chicago police.

The victim was walking to his car when a white sedan rolled to a stop next to him on the 700 block of North Wood around 12:30 a.m., police said. A man got out of the car’s front passenger seat, confronted the victim with a handgun, and ordered him to turn over his bag.

He then shot the victim, took the backpack, and fled in the sedan, police said.

The victim was shot once in his right bicep. CPD officers applied a tourniquet to slow his blood loss until EMS could get him to Stroger Hospital. He was listed in good condition.

According to an initial CPD report, the robber and his accomplice were Hispanic men who may have been riding in a white Lincoln.

Area Three detectives are investigating.

CWBChicago was created in 2013 by five residents of Wrigleyville and Boystown who had grown disheartened with inaccurate information that was being provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Our coverage area has expanded since then to cover Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side Areas. But our mission remains unchanged: To provide original public safety reporting with better context and greater detail than mainstream media outlets. Our editorial email address is news@cwbchicago.com
