Woman carjacked at gunpoint in Bucktown

Two men carjacked a 30-year-old woman as she stepped out of her SUV on Saturday morning in Bucktown, police said.

The hijackers stepped out of a dark blue SUV and demanded the woman’s keys at gunpoint at 9:06 a.m. on the 2300 block of West McLean, Officer Ana Pacheco said.

One of the carjackers drove away with the woman’s black 2019 Mercedes SUV while the other fled in the car the duo arrived with, according to Pacheco.

She said the suspects are two Black males between 18- and 25-years-old who stand 5’8″ to 5’9″ tall.

There were 53 carjackings reported in Wicker Park and Bucktown last year, up from 27 in 2020, according to CPD records. The neighborhoods had 11 hijackings in both 2018 and 2019.

Citywide, 79 carjackings were reported during the first two weeks of January, down from 103 during the same time last year. There were 33 and 27 during the first two weeks of 2020 and 2019 respectively.
