Later in the day, someone shots from a car as they traveled through River North, causing property damage but no injuries.

The woman told police she was a passenger in a car when someone fired from a gray four-door SUV on the 1200 block of North Dearborn around 3 a.m. A bullet struck her in the left thigh.

Her driver took her to Lurie Children’s Hospital for treatment. She was transferred to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition.

Police did receive calls of shots fired near the 800 block of North Franklin shortly before 3 a.m., according to dispatch records. No shots fired calls were received from the Dearborn location, however.

Police have recorded seven shooting victims this year on the Near North Side, stretching from the Chicago River to Lake Michigan south of North Avenue. Six of those shootings took place between 1 a.m. and 4 a.m.

One of the victims died, 16-year-old Vadarrion Knight, who was ambushed outside the Grand Red Line station at 2:03 a.m. on February 28.

During the same period last year, there were two shooting victims in the area. There were four at this point in 2020 and one by this time in 2019.
