CTA passenger dead after being stabbed on a Blue Line train downtown, police say

A 43-year-old man is dead after someone stabbed him aboard a Blue Line train downtown on Monday evening. The offender remains at large. CPD released images of the suspect on Tuesday afternoon.

Police and fire department personnel responded to a person stabbed at the LaSalle Blue Line station around 10:52 p.m. They found the victim bleeding from two stab wounds, one in the chest, the other under his left armpit, an officer said.

EMS took the victim to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 11:23 p.m.

The attack apparently took place on an inbound train car when it was at or near the Clinton Blue Line station in the West Loop.

CPD surveillance camera operators said video footage shows a man on the Clinton platform holding a knife with a possibly 6-inch blade around the time of the attack. The offender fled from the LaSalle station after he stabbed the victim, according to CPD.

According to the camera operators, the suspect is a middle-aged Black male wearing a light-colored baseball cap, a blue hoodie with light-colored writing on the front, blue pants, and black shoes.
