A woman was attacked in an apparent sexual assault attempt at a bus stop in Lakeview this morning, according to a source and witnesses.
The witness said he saw a man attack the woman at a bus stop in the 2900 block of North Sheridan around 6:10 a.m. At one point, the woman was on the ground with the man on top of her, the witness said.
Another witness reported seeing the woman on the ground and the man nearby pulling up his pants.
Several people called 911 with descriptions of the man and updates on his location. Officers detained the suspect around 6:30 a.m. in the 600 block of West Belmont. He was taken into custody after the victim confirmed that he was the offender, according to CPD radio transmissions.
A police spokesperson could not immediately confirm details of the incident because the case report was still being finalized as this story was published.
