Officials say a man found dead behind the Pottawattomie Park field house on Tuesday morning was killed in a physical attack. The Cook County medical examiner’s office ruled his death a homicide.
Chicago police responded to the park, 7340 North Rogers, around 8:40 a.m. after someone found the man’s body, which was said to be covered in blood. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The medical examiner identified him as 67-year-old Vincente Antunez.
CPD has not released any other information about the murder.
Antunez is the third murder victim in Rogers Park this year. The neighborhood had two murder cases in all of last year and six in both 2020 and 2019, according to city records.
On July 31, 19-year-old Anthony Gordoa-Huerta was fatally shot as he drove in the 7200 block of North Clark around 1:13 p.m.
The first victim of this year, Julbert Hernandez, 21, was shot and killed in the 7400 block of North Wolcott on May 3. Another man was also shot during that incident and survived.
